FEATURED HOLIDAYS AND BAKERY OF THE WEEK:

VALENTINE’S DAY  Over time, Valentine’s Day evolved into a celebration of love and affection. Today, it is a day when people exchange cards, flowers, and gifts with their loved ones, expressing their feelings and celebrating romantic relationships. While the historical origins are rooted in martyrdom, the modern celebration has become associated with love and affection.

PRESIDENT’S DAY “Decision making, like coffee, needs a cooling process.” — George Washington  President’s Day is always celebrated on the third Monday of February. This year, it falls on Feb. 19.  #PresidentsDay

MON AMIE BAKERY is this week’s star bakery! Mon Amie Bakery & Cafe have been on my radar for quite a while. GUYS! It is seriously amazing! Mill Creek is so lucky to have such an incredible business.

Been here before? What was your favorite food on the menu, drink or feature? Let me know in the comments what you love best!

FEBRUARY WINTER GARDENING IN SNOHOMISH & KING COUNTIES

In Snohomish County, Washington, the weather can be characterized by mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers. Here are five activities you can do in the garden, taking into account the local climate:

  1. Winter Pruning:

    • During the winter months, when the weather is cooler, you can engage in pruning tasks. Trim back deciduous trees and shrubs, removing dead or damaged branches. This promotes healthy growth when spring arrives.
  2. Planting Cool-Season Vegetables:

    • Snohomish County experiences relatively mild winters, making it suitable for growing cool-season vegetables like kale, spinach, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. Planting these crops in late winter or early spring allows them to mature before the warmer months.
  3. Prepping Soil for Spring:

    • Take advantage of the winter months to prepare your garden soil for the upcoming growing season. Add compost or organic matter to improve soil structure. Turning the soil and incorporating amendments can help enhance drainage and fertility.
  4. Planning and Designing:

    • Winter is an excellent time to plan and design your garden. Research new plant varieties, layout ideas, or consider adding features like pathways, raised beds, or trellises. This preparation can help you hit the ground running when the weather becomes more favorable for planting.
  5. Wildlife-Friendly Gardening:

    • Create a garden that attracts local wildlife, such as birds and beneficial insects. Install bird feeders, bird baths, and plant native flowers that provide food and shelter. Consider leaving some areas of your garden undisturbed to create habitats for insects and other small creatures.

Remember to check local gardening guides or consult with a local gardening center for more specific recommendations tailored to Snohomish County’s climate and conditions.

Have a great weekend~Nina
