Mountlake Terrace Community Guide

Explore Mountlake Terrace

Initially founded in 1949, real estate developers established Mountlake Terrace on the site of a disused airfield to provide affordable housing for veterans. Within five years, the population had swelled to over 5,000, prompting the community to incorporate as a city in 1954 to offer municipal services. In 1965, an industrial park was constructed at the city’s northwest corner, which was connected to Interstate 5.

In 2009, the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center, a significant bus hub, was opened. It is scheduled to have a Link light rail service by 2024. The city also boasts several parks, including access to Lake Ballinger and Terrace Creek Park. Mountlake Terrace hosts an annual summer festival that is part of Seafair.
